Ash Wednesday Service

Noon.  Don't take the babies.

11:30 am I was so proud to have three under three dressed for church, and myself as well with plenty of time for makeup and driving.  I nursed Theresa and sat down at the kitchen table to "put on my face" when I heard Mikey's voice from the bathroom.

"Do you need any help in there baby?" Too many clothes can make or break the toilet trainers day.
"Um no," he said.  My supersonic mom hearing could tell something was weird.

"Could you come here?"
"Um no"
"Where are you, Mikey?"
"In the bathtub."
"Is there water in there?"
"Yes, I'm not cold, my clothes are still on."

He was fully dressed in a tub full of lukewarm water which I had forgotten to drain not 30 minutes earlier.  I left the bathroom and waited for his dad.

back to the list

My basement houses the laundry, a food pantry, a computer work area, my sewing machine and supplies, projects in progress, and three closets.  There is closet for the adjacent playroom/bedroom where we keep the boys clothes and out of season clothes.   There is the supply closet with cleaning supplies, TP, dog food and extra kitchen, table and floor linens. Then there is my closet, full of paper crafts, journals, giftwrap and I don't even know what else.  .

This is the small shelf near the food pantry bellow which is a fourth closet housing the luggage.  I suppose this was a telephone shelf, but we have no land line so now it keeps clothes pins, chalk and magnets.

the dog

The dog next door barks most of the day, the kind of bark that would have awakened me on a quiet sunny morning when everyone else is already at school or work, and staying in bed feels like playing hooky.  She would have annoyed me into covering my head with a pillow to hang on to the fleeting pleasure of dosing in and out of consciousness.

Now, she neither keeps me awake nor does she annoy anyone except for our dog and only when I take her outside for a walk.  I avoid that direction because Cleo feels compelled to bark out the by the way you are obnoxious warning that all incessant barkers deserve,  and she tugs at the leash.  Boxers are strong, even when they get old.

I was drinking my morning coffee and wondering why does Maggie not bother me?  I mean if I were asleep, these days, I would stay asleep.  This is the magic of three under three.  They rule your sleep, nothing else can budge you.  Because the dog does not awaken my babes, she does not bother me.

Tommy worked out

Jennifer came today to play with Tommy while he practiced standing. He is doing well playing on the table while standing, even making the showoff sounds: grunts and groans of exertion. We have a regular  appointment now, and I call her is personal trainer.
